The First Elder is actually very nice, he was the one who found Zi Yan and brought her back to the academy, he becomes a very good friend to Xiao Yan, almost treats him almost like Yao Lao would treat him, he is currently a Dou Zong (ancestor) and is one of the three most powerful elders in the academy, the other two are the ones you saw that opened the library to the students (the studio changed their role a little) those two are much more powerful than the first elder since they spend their time cultivating while Su Qian, the First Elder doesnt cultivate as much as them because of managing the academy, yeah the Head Master of the academy is pretty much useless, always away travelling around the world

As to what is the urgency towards the end, the trailer pretty much shows it the Xiao Clan is being attacked by the Yun Lan Sect and the Hall of Souls However Xiao Yan's brother will stop him from returning to Jia Ma Empire since he is not strong enough and the remaining clan members are safe for the time being being protected by Hai Bodong
